Welcome to Oliver's Battery Pre-school CIO

Oliver's Battery Pre-school CIO ( a Charitable Incorporated Organisation), previously known as Oliver's Battery Pre-school, is a secure, engaging and friendly environment for children aged 2 to 5 years, situated in the grounds of Oliver's Battery Primary School.

Established in February 1999 by Jackie Johnston, a pre-school leader with more than 20 years’ experience, to provide the local community with high-quality care and education of children who are below the statutory school age.

Staffed by an experienced and well-qualified team, Oliver’s Battery Pre-school CIO works in partnership with parents to help their children to learn and develop as well as to offer them a service that promotes equality and values diversity.

Small ratios

With a ratio of one adult to four children for 2 year olds, and one to six for older children, our pre-school offers a secure environment in which every member of staff understands the needs of each individual child.

Oliver’s Battery Pre-school CIO is registered with Ofsted and the Early Years Education funding. For more information please email us at oliversbatterypreschool@gmail.com or telephone Jackie Johnston on 07941 796958.

On 9th November 2016 Oliver’s Battery Pre-school was inspected by Ofsted. We are very pleased to announce that overall, the quality and standards of the early years provision at our pre-school was rated good, and in particular, how well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend was rated ‘outstanding’.

Key comments from the inspection report include:

  • Children form strong bonds with staff. They are confident and settle quickly when they first arrive.
  • Staff help children to develop a good understanding of the rules and boundaries that keep them safe. They provide good opportunities for children to take turns and share. Children behave positively.
  • Staff assess children's learning and development effectively across all areas. they use their good knowledge of children's interests and capabilities well to plan for further successes. Children, including those for whom the provider receives funding, progress well in relation to their starting point.
  • Relationships with parents and other professionals are good. Staff share information about children's learning and care with others to provide effective levels of continuity.
  • The manager monitors the quality of teaching well. She helps staff to develop their professional skills and understanding through support and training, to provide better outcomes for the children.
